Staff Environmental Engineer/Geologist

ERM is looking for a motivated, hands-on Staff Environmental Engineer/Geologist to join our growing client-focused team in either Baton Rouge or New Orleans, LA. Working under the direction of project managers and partners, the successful candidate will work on a variety of projects that elements of site investigation and remediation, environmental due diligence for property transactions, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance.  Projects are primarily in the Gulf Coast area and this is a growth position with increasing responsibility for task/project management duties, while building the required experience to obtain your professional registration.


  • Assist primarily in water, waste water, solid waste compliance documentation and permitting, including preparation of SPCC and SWPPP documents.
  • Perform environmental due diligence (Phase I/II ESA) for O&G facilities, pipelines, chemical plants, refineries, manufacturing, green fields, etc. to support property transfer transactions.
  • Participate in compliance audits, conduct field work, including soil, sediment, ground water, and surface water sampling, 316(b) sampling, drilling oversight and soil logging, soil boring and monitoring well installation, well development, purging and sampling, and construction oversight.
  • Coordinate and direct drilling, surveying, private utility locates, and laboratory services.
  • Provide construction oversight on environmental remediation projects, and operations and maintenance of environmental remediation systems.
  • Assist in data interpretation and preparation of site health and safety plans, work plans, spreadsheets, figures, and technical reports.
  • Focus on team project delivery, taking direction primarily from Project Managers.
  • Work within quality/budget/schedule expectations and scope-specific assignments.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with all federal, state and local regulations.
  • Communicate with subcontractors, regulatory agents, tenants, and clients during field activities.


  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, civil engineering, geology, hydrogeology, or related discipline; Master’s degree a plus. Engineering Intern qualification a plus.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience with progressive task and project management of complex site investigation/remediation projects under a variety of local, state, and federal regulatory standards (e.g., CERCLA, RCRA, etc.) including willingness/interest in field assignments.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong writing skills essential.  Effective communication and organization/analytical skills. 
  • Environmental field work experience and 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification a plus
  • Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health and Safety protocols.
  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record is required. Ability to qualify for and obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) is required.
  • Travel up to 50% of the time.
  • Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, travel, and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel; familiarity with mapping/modeling software a plus.
  • Candidates local to either New Orleans or Baton Rouge preferred.
